Isle of Skye

The Cuillin ridge, the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr — the most photographed skyline in Scotland, and still a working island underneath it.

Getting there

Over the Skye Bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh (no toll since 2004), or the Mallaig–Armadale ferry. Roughly five hours from Glasgow, six from Edinburgh.

What to know

  • Single-track roads with passing places are normal in the north of the island. Passing places are for passing and for letting faster traffic through, not for parking.
  • Portree, Dunvegan and Broadford are where the shops, fuel and restaurants are. Plan around them rather than assuming.
  • The Fairy Pools, Storr and Quiraing car parks charge and fill early in summer.

We'll email you once when there's something worth seeing — the first cottages, in the places people asked for. No newsletter, no drip campaign, and you can say stop any time.
